Funder
In 2006 the State of Colorado was awarded a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment to develop and implement screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) as a routine procedure within health service delivery systems. SBIRT is designed to target people with high-risk, non-dependent use and to provide effective strategies for intervention prior to the need for more intensive treatment. It emphasizes universal screening and very brief interventions for patients identified as needing some level of treatment for risky use of alcohol and other substances. The SBIRT Colorado initiative which is administered by the Division of Behavioral Health (formerly the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division) and managed by Peer Assistance Services, Inc. provided funds to CCGC to develop the alcohol and substance use guideline to increase awareness and use of SBIRT in healthcare settings throughout Colorado.
