Women's Health Care Associates
Women's Health Care Associates (WHCA) is an OB/GYN specialty group practice with two Denver suburban sites. Six physicians and two nurse practitioners serve approximately 140 patients per day. The practice provides medical and surgical care to women including preventive care, prenatal care and family planning. The goals of the grant are to implement an office-wide system that ensures query and documentation of patient tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure status; implement a system for documenting patient counseling and intervention; train staff on the tobacco guidelines and counseling strategies; and provide patient education materials and resources.
Recent successes include incorporating tobacco status questions on their internal forms for annual GYN visit and Post Partum visits; implementing a QuitLine referral process; and establishing a tickler system to prompt nurses to call patients one month following QuitLine referral.
