Integrating Tobacco Cessation in Clinical Practice:
Tobacco Rapid Improvement Activity (TRIA)

Colorado Clinical Guidelines Collaborative (CCGC) works with physicians' offices across the state to assist them in integrating tobacco cessation into their clinical practices. We do this by conducting a Tobacco Rapid Improvement Activity (TRIA) session in the office. The TRIA process is offered free of charge and includes a one-hour lunch time visit to a practice by a CCGC facilitator who describes the tobacco clinical guideline and available resources, and then leads a brainstorming session with the entire practice staff on how to improve their systems of care related to the guideline. Lunch is provided by CCGC. Practices receive follow-up contact from CCGC one week, six weeks, three months, and six months following the TRIA session to offer ongoing technical assistance.
